Situated near the Jordan River, north of the Dead Sea and east of Jerusalem, Jericho is a city of profound historical and geopolitical significance. As the only active border crossing between Palestine and the West Bank, it occupies a symbolic threshold a passage between histories, cultures, and territories. This gateway condition informs the conceptual foundation of the masterplan, where heritage, movement, and adaptability converge.
The design strategy builds upon Jericho’s layered past while introducing new urban functions that respond to contemporary civic, social, and economic needs. Through careful research into the region’s history, the project embraces cultural continuity while proposing forward-looking interventions that position Jericho as a renewed destination.
The spatial organization is anchored by a central recreational spine, which operates as both a circulation axis and a public attractor. This core is populated with commercial and tourism focused programs, intensifying pedestrian engagement and catalyzing an active, walkable urban life. Botanical gardens, schools, theaters, and cultural venues further enrich the civic realm, strengthening Jericho’s appeal as a mixed-use cultural hub.
Residential components are tiered across the site. Luxury units are situated along the square facing edges, benefiting from visibility, access, and open vistas. Standard residential blocks are positioned more inwardly, ensuring privacy and community clustering. Each housing zone is supported by mixed-use functions to enhance livability and daily accessibility.
The proposal synthesizes local sensitivity with tourist attraction, ensuring that public space, program, and form serve both permanent residents and temporary visitors. It envisions Jericho not only as a historically resonant city but also as a vibrant, adaptable urban gateway where memory and modernity intersect.
