Located at an altitude of 1300–1600 meters above sea level, the historic city of Shusha stands as one of the oldest inhabited areas in the Caucasus. The lands surrounding Shusha have long been under the rule of prominent civilizations such as the Median Empire, Achaemenids, Caucasian Albania, the Safavids, and the Karabakh Khanate. Archaeological excavations at the nearby Shusha Cave have revealed stone tools from the Paleolithic era, highlighting the region’s deep-rooted history.

In this historically rich setting, the dormant caravanserai in Shusha is being revitalized through a sensitive restoration and modernization project. The design remains loyal to the caravanserai’s original function—serving as a place of trade, dining, and rest—while adapting to contemporary needs. The restoration prioritizes the preservation of the original architectural features and structural integrity. The renewed caravanserai offers visitors a unique atmosphere that seamlessly blends the spirit of the past with the comfort and functionality of the present.
