Project Overview

Located in Iraq, this project is situated on a land area of 18,800 m² and is deeply embedded in the region’s cultural and historical context. Drawing architectural inspiration from the ancient ziggurats of Mesopotamia and traditional Iraqi design principles, the project proposes a bold synthesis of the past and present.

Design Principles and Symbolism

Inspired by the stepped geometries of ziggurats and the ornamental character of local architecture, the building’s form expresses continuity with its past. Key elements include:
• Arches and modular rhythms as typological references
• The use of local materials and construction methods
• A deliberate modulation of solid and void through shaded terraces, arcades, and transitional thresholds

Particular emphasis is placed on the Sun and Shirin mountains, whose symbolic importance is expressed in the entrance design acting as a spatial echo of collective memory and landscape identity.

Functional Program

The programmatic distribution supports both formal and informal gatherings:
• Dining Hall
• Terrace
• Multipurpose Hall
• General and VIP Lounges
• Administrative and Service Spaces

The  Cultural Center reflects a sensitive and contextual design approach one that transforms history, memory, and locality into spatial experience. It serves as a contemporary architectural response rooted in heritage, and open to future reinterpretation.
