Urban Context and Strategic Location
The project site is located in Ankara’s Etimesgut district, on the western axis of the city. With its developed infrastructure, proximity to transportation networks, and easy access to the city center, the area offers significant potential. The campus is surrounded by key institutions such as the Turkish Aeronautical Association University, Şehit Sait Ertürk State Hospital, and Etimesgut Train Station, positioning it as a strategic hub of education, health, and connectivity.
Topography and Environmental Data
The site features varying elevations between 809 and 826 meters. The design responds to this topography with solutions tailored to accessibility and spatial organization. Building placement has been planned in alignment with the prevailing northwest wind to enhance natural ventilation. Sun exposure and shading studies guided the orientation and envelope strategies, ensuring maximum daylight use while preventing overheating through integrated shading elements.
Design Framework
The campus is divided into three main zones along Türk Kızılayı Avenue: the Red Crescent Headquarters, residential areas, and a mixed residential-commercial zone. Each zone is accessed independently from different directions. The headquarters, together with the Congress Center, combines modern and traditional elements to reinforce institutional identity. Green spaces are placed at the heart of the project, promoting active living and interaction across all zones.
Functions and Spatial Organization
The masterplan integrates five key functions: the Red Crescent Congress and Headquarters buildings, residential blocks, commercial blocks, residential units above commercial areas, and social facilities. These elements are brought together around a central square and landscape axis, creating a coherent urban environment. Independent entrances ensure functional clarity. The Congress Center, equipped with multipurpose halls, seminar rooms, and social spaces, enhances the complex’s cultural and operational capacity.
Landscape and Social Spaces
Landscape design plays a central role in the project. A public square at the intersection of the three main zones serves as a focal point of interaction. Recreational areas include open sports fields and carefully designed children’s playgrounds, enriching the social fabric. The poolside recreational axis adds aesthetic and functional value, transforming the campus into a vibrant social hub beyond its institutional role.
