Situated across 480 hectares on the western fringe of Konya, the Konya Şeker Project reinterprets the city’s industrial heritage into a dynamic mixed-use urban fabric that meets contemporary living standards. Rooted in a legacy of sugar beet production, the project establishes a meaningful dialogue with its context adjacent to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and the historic Gevale Castle.

The site, once home to key industrial infrastructure, now transforms these structures through adaptive reuse. Former sugar processing buildings, wastewater treatment plants, and storage units are reimagined as cultural, public, and recreational spaces. This strategy not only preserves the spatial memory of Konya’s industrial identity but also integrates it seamlessly into everyday life.

The masterplan weaves together a multi-layered urban composition composed of low- and mid-rise residential buildings, retail units, offices, educational and health programs. At its heart lies a central recreational park featuring water elements, walking paths, and native landscaping all promoting a shared public realm. The skyline is composed through a calibrated gradient of building heights, enhancing visual continuity and urban legibility.

Environmental sustainability is embedded in the proposal through the use of permeable surfaces, green roofs, and water recycling strategies. Beyond visual and functional coherence, the project aspires to set a precedent for sustainable urban regeneration. Konya Şeker emerges as a contemporary urban district rooted in memory, offering a new spatial narrative shaped by the past yet designed for the future.
