Rooted in the traditional urban memory of Islamic cities, the Kütahya Zafer Square Renewal Project reimagines the historical city center by merging sacred landmarks with contemporary public space design. The project integrates historic mosques, külliyes, and türbes into a new urban sequence through thoughtfully designed pedestrian axes.

Contextual Integration and Sacred Continuity

The historical buildings surrounding the project site, including monumental religious complexes, are reconnected through a renewed network of urban voids. This spatial strategy unites old and new squares, positioning the new design not as a rupture but as a continuation of an architectural and spiritual legacy. The project’s modern symbolism draws directly from the cultural and religious heritage it respects.

Residential Enclosure and Ground Activation

Inspired by traditional courtyard housing typologies, the residential blocks are arranged around a shared internal courtyard, fostering community interaction and visual continuity. The base floors that emerge due to the site’s slope are activated through commercial units that align with the street level, ensuring urban permeability and economic vibrancy.

Collective Landscape and Everyday Life

The inner courtyard, designed as a communal green zone, includes children’s play areas, seating terraces, and micro parks. By blending sacred memory with functional livability, the project creates a unique urban fabric that honors its cultural past while offering comfort and accessibility for today’s urban dwellers.
