The Qaraqhaji Cemetery project is conceived as a long-term masterplan that extends beyond its initial implementation, embracing a design strategy that anticipates future phases of development. With this forward-looking approach, the spatial organization of the cemetery is structured around three principal axes, offering clarity, coherence, and flexibility for expansion.
A Monumental Gateway at the Intersection of Settlements
Positioned at the convergence point of four roads linking three different settlements, the monumental entrance stands as both a symbolic and functional threshold. This carefully selected location not only provides maximum visibility and accessibility but also establishes a sense of arrival and reverence appropriate to the sacred nature of the site.
Framework for Future Growth
The three primary axes radiating from the main entrance serve as foundational lines for the cemetery’s spatial rhythm. These axes define zones of development and enable the integration of future burial plots, commemorative structures, and landscape interventions in a way that remains consistent with the original intent. This phased strategy allows the cemetery to grow systematically while preserving its solemn identity and landscape continuity.
