Revitalizing a Growing Urban Core in Samsun’s Canik District
Situated in the Canik district of Samsun a metropolitan center bridging the deltas of Yeşilırmak and Kızılırmak Rivers the project area occupies a strategic position near major arterial roads and vital public amenities. With its proximity to Atatürk and İlkadım Boulevards, the planning site offers strong accessibility and urban integration.
The design responds to both the physical topography and urban context. While taking advantage of the site’s elevation differences, the layout maximizes daylight exposure and passive energy gains by orienting the majority of the 30 residential blocks toward the south and southeast. The spatial organization of the blocks, green buffers, and circulation pathways foster both privacy and community interaction.
The development features residential blocks complemented by commercial units on ground floors that face park and plaza frontages supporting daily needs and encouraging street level activation. The landscape strategy includes passive green belts, water elements, seating zones, and children’s play areas, creating a layered network of public and semi public spaces.
In addition to prioritizing livability, comfort, and environmental performance, the project integrates inclusive access routes and design strategies accommodating users of all ages and abilities. Centralized park areas shared between parcels reinforce the neighborhood’s social fabric, proposing a walkable, green, and human scaled urban environment.
