Following the devastating earthquakes of February 6, 2023, SP Architects has been actively working on the ground since the very first day. For our office, this process has gone far beyond the production of buildings, bringing with it the responsibility to create livable, resilient, and human-centered cities.
In line with this approach, throughout 2024 our entire planning and design methodology has been shaped around the concept of “affordable comfort.” This approach aims not only to respond to housing needs, but also to create urban environments that enhance quality of life, strengthen social solidarity, and support both individual and collective well-being. For SP Architects, the goal is not merely to help people survive, but to design spaces where they can truly live.
Across Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, and Adıyaman, planning and design work has been carried out on a total of 14 different sites in three cities. In these projects, a long-term vision has been adopted—one that prioritizes not only structural safety, but also the emotional and social needs of communities. Creating sustainable, functional, and at the same time healing environments has been the central focus of this process.
Within this framework, SP Architects shared its approaches to post-earthquake urban development, affordable comfort, and human-centered design at an academic platform held on Tuesday, April 15, at the Kahramanmaraş Onikişubat Municipality EXPO Area. The event featured a presentation by Sabri Paşayiğit, Founding Partner of SP Architects, as a speaker.
We believe that this multidisciplinary gathering—bringing together NGOs, universities, public institutions, urban planners, architects, sociologists, and local residents—made a valuable contribution to the creation of more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities. As SP Architects, we remain committed to taking responsibility in the post-earthquake recovery process, continuing to work on the ground, and shaping human-centered cities for the future.
