Located in the heart of Kilis, this project redefines the city’s main square as a dynamic and inclusive urban space. The design approach first addresses the elevation difference between the existing square and its surroundings expanding the surface area and integrating level access through newly designed ramps and stairs. The vehicle entry to the underground parking was repositioned to improve flow and safety.

Topographic Strategy and Accessibility Solutions

The new topographic layout not only resolves circulation problems but also enables barrier-free access across the entire square. By creating fluid transitions between levels, the square becomes an open and legible public space, enhancing inclusivity and urban comfort.

Architectural Renewal and Functional Integration

Surrounding structures were carefully analyzed and either modernized or reimagined to reflect contemporary architectural language while respecting the local context. Facade renovations have increased the visual coherence of the square, while new programmatic insertions—such as student dormitories, residential units, and retail spaces—inject vitality and functional richness into the urban core.

Urban Vitality and Social Anchoring

With its renewed spatial identity, Kilis Square now functions as an active social and commercial node that supports the daily routines of residents and invites visitors into a well-integrated urban ecosystem. Designed with sensitivity to local character and user needs, the project offers a model for human-centered urban regeneration in small-scale Anatolian cities.
