Located along the southern coastline of Tuzla, a district on Istanbul’s Asian side, this residential project transforms the unique dialogue between land and sea into a spatial language shaped by movement and fluidity. Adjacent to Tuzla Marina and Viaport Shopping Center, and within reach of institutions like Sabancı and Piri Reis Universities, the project occupies a strategic coastal zone balancing residential, educational, and recreational demands. Its proximity to Sabiha Gökçen Airport (20 km) and the Marmaray rail line (3.4 km) further integrates it into Istanbul’s infrastructural network.

The design emerges from the formal and phenomenological qualities of waves specifically their breaking, inclination, and rhythmic movement. These dynamics are reinterpreted architecturally in the configuration of the roofs and façades, where each residential unit carries a gesture drawn from the sea. In section and plan, this idea allows for staggered terraces and shifting floor levels that maximize sea views, even from the site’s furthest points.

Site strategy takes full advantage of the terrain’s topography. Residential blocks are positioned to avoid obstructing one another’s vistas, using elevation differentials to step buildings down toward the coast. A tiered organization of typologies—chalets, villas, and residences—are placed across the slope from lower to higher densities, forming a layered visual gradient.

Green terraces, private gardens, and rooftop landscaping strengthen the ecological and recreational character of the project. The language of the social center—designed as a communal hub—is inspired by the structural logic of sea shells, utilizing curvilinear forms to shape an enclosure that echoes natural growth and marine morphology.

Tuzla Residences embodies a coastal urbanism that weaves together nature, view, and fluid form anchoring architecture in the rhythm of water and light.
